The fourth niyama, or observance, in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra is svadhyaya. This is most commonly translated to mean ‘self-study’ in modern times and is often associated with looking at one’s personality. However, here in this talk, Sandra Anderson shares that the more traditional intention of this practice-driven observance is focused on study of the scriptures and mantra japa. From this, we find an understanding and alignment with the deeper nature or divine aspect of ourselves.
